Bindan Djak Rangers

Members of GAC have agreed that a Jabirr Jabirr/Ngumbarl Ranger unit is a high priority and became one of the first initiatives taken on by Gadalargan.  In October 2023, an application to the State for funding of a plan to build and implement a Ranger programme was submitted and the grant approved in January 2024.  Monies to commence this work will be released in July 2024.

The name, Bindan Djak Rangers (one who travels the bush) was suggested by Henry Augustine and has been adopted in applications for funding, planning and general communications.

Unlike more traditional Ranger group models, we are developing the structure based on function to ensure that we develop all the skills and resources needed to effectively deliver the programme.  We will look for input from elders and stakeholders to refine the model but currently we are working on 4 key function areas that are funded from varying sources.

  • Baseline – using Drone technology

  • Mapping & recording of current state

  • Develppment of plan to rehabilitate, native planting etc. supported by experts (Training in Drone technology, monitoring, recording etc.)
